No question matches that search.
It is an app for discovering, organising and sharing movies and TV shows. You save what you've already watched, rating it from 1 to 10, and the app uses your highest-rated titles to suggest new ones that match your taste. You add friends and can see their Watched list, ratings included. You can recommend films to each other and create groups to share titles.
Yes. Your lists, ratings and friendships are stored in your account, so they follow you on any platform - phone, tablet or computer. You can create an account with an email and password, or with your Google or Apple account.
Yes. All the main features - lists, ratings, friends, groups and suggestions - are free and unlimited. The only Premium feature is search by Theme (using AI). You can check your account in Settings → Account status.
No. The app is for discovering, organising and sharing movies and shows. That said, on the ▶ Details & trailer page you can watch the title's trailer, and if you have a streaming app such as Netflix or Apple TV installed, you can open and watch the title there by tapping the provider's icon just above the trailer.
Search for 3 or 4 films you really love and save them to your Watched list with a rating of 10, so FindMyFilms can start learning your taste. Pick films from different genres (Adventure, Romance, Comedy and Thriller, for example) to give it some variety.
The quickest way is to rate it: tap a score from 1 to 10 directly on the title card. This marks it as watched and adds it to Lists → Watched in one step.
If you'd rather tap 🎯 Add to Watched, the title is saved without a rating. In that case, stop by Lists → Watched later to rate it - ratings are what make your suggestions better.
They provide FindMyFilms with a starting point while it still hasn't learned your taste. Once you pick 3 or more genres, you start getting suggestions based on them. These titles are labelled "Popular in [genre]" on the card, so you can see why they were suggested.
As you rate titles 7 or higher, your suggestions shift towards your own history and the popular ones gradually drop off.
The genre picker only appears once, but you can change your choices any time in Settings → Suggestions Preferences.
It's the list of movies and shows that are most popular with audiences right now.
Only titles available for streaming in your country are included. Tap a poster to open its details page.
Today shows what surged in the last 24 hours - usually the day's premieres and new arrivals.
Past week looks at the last seven days: a steadier list, with titles that have been drawing attention for a while.
No. This list is the same for everyone in your country: it shows what's trending right now, regardless of what you've watched or rated.
The tab that takes your taste into account is Suggestions - there, recommendations are based on your ratings, the genres you've chosen, and also your friends.
There are two possible reasons. The first: the list only shows what's available for streaming in your country - set in Settings → Streaming country -, so a title that hasn't arrived here yet won't appear.
The second: the ranking is global and the list is short - only 20 titles at a time, so occasionally a trending title may not make the cut.
Because the list answers "what is trending", not "what you should watch next". If something you have already seen is trending, it shows up.
For lists that take your history into account, use Suggestions.
In the Search tab. Type the name under Title search. The search understands titles in English and in the original language, so both the original and the translated name usually find the same film. And you don't need to type the whole title, just keywords from it - searching for "raiders ark", for example, brings up "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
It is the advanced search option, powered by artificial intelligence. Instead of looking for a title, you describe an idea - "films for wine lovers", "small-town thriller", "something light for a Sunday" - and the AI suggests titles that fit.
Because it does two things before showing any result. First the artificial intelligence interprets your request - it thinks before answering, drawing up an initial list of titles - and that is where most of the time goes. Then it looks those titles up in the catalogue, discarding the ones that do not really exist. Title search is instant because it skips both steps and goes straight to the catalogue. One tip: searching the same theme again produces immediate results, because the results are kept for 12 hours.
Since the AI interprets what you wrote, it may not have understood what you are after. Try rewording it: repeating exactly the same text returns the same list. Note that search by Theme (using AI) brings at most 20 titles at a time.
The answer is capped at 20 titles to limit the time the AI spends searching. Otherwise it thinks for far too long. If it did not find the title you were after, try being more specific. For example: searching just "007" will leave films out, since the famous James Bond franchise has more than 20 of them. Better to narrow it down: "007 films with Daniel Craig".
Search by Theme (using AI) is the only Premium plan feature. New accounts get a free period, and Settings → Account status shows the date it ends. Everything else in the app keeps working normally after that. To get search by Theme (using AI) back, subscribe to the Premium plan.
Search by Theme (using AI). Write what you are looking for with the names, for example: "Brad Pitt" or "Scorsese films". The AI recognises the people and builds the list from there.
If the critic is well known, search by Theme (using AI) brings not only the films they reviewed but also a note about the review. For example, searching for "Manohla Dargis", chief film critic at The New York Times, returns 20 titles with a note on each - for "Past Lives" the AI noted: "Delicate and obsessive; Dargis praised its narrative precision."
It depends on the type of search. In Title search, FindMyFilms weighs several factors: how well the words match, the titles' ratings, popularity, and others. Note that the words you search for have to appear in the title - the English name, the original one, or the translated one, it doesn't matter which. Search by Theme (using AI), on the other hand, does not depend on words in the title: it brings the titles that best match its interpretation of your request. As with any AI, the better the prompt, the better the result.
Apply the filters and the list will get much closer to what you are after.
The first one sorts the list, bringing to the top the titles that best match one of these criteria: Relevance, Friends' picks, Newest first and Highest rated.
The second one filters by genre, showing only titles of the genre you pick. Genres include Action, Adventure, Comedy, Crime, Documentary, Drama, Science Fiction, Horror, and so on.
The filters stack, so you can look at Action films that are also the Highest rated.
It does! If you already know the documentary's name, use Title search. If you don't, use search by Theme (using AI) - searching for "documentary on greenhouse effect", for instance, brings up titles such as "An Inconvenient Truth", "David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet" and "Planet in Peril".
They are the different things you can do once you spot a title you like:
🎯 Add to Watched: saves the title to your Watched list;
🔖 Watch later: saves the title to your Watch later list;
👪 Add to Groups: saves the title to a group of your choice;
👉🏼 Recommend: sends the title to a friend;
▶ Details & trailer: opens the title's information and trailer page.
It is where you get all the information about a film or show: title, release year, genre, global rating, synopsis, main cast, directors, country of origin, original title, which streaming services carry it, and the trailer. At the bottom of the page it also shows similar films. From the page you can take action: rate the title, comment on it, add it to your Watched list, Watch later or a group, and recommend it to friends. You can also see the ratings your friends gave the title, and their comments about it if they wrote any.
Yes. Just tap the poster and it opens full screen, with a close button in the top right corner. Once it is open you can also zoom in on the poster to look at the details.
Information about films and shows comes from a global database called TMDb, and streaming availability comes from a service called JustWatch. Both are credited at the bottom of every title's page. Availability changes according to the country set in your Settings.
They are two different ratings. The one with the star is the TMDb community rating - an average of ratings from thousands of people around the world. Your rating is the one you give from 1 to 10, and that is the one FindMyFilms feeds into the engine behind your suggestions.
The "Where to watch" section shows every service that carries that title in your country, not just the ones you subscribe to - the app has no way of knowing which services you have. It is split into "Subscription" and "Rent or buy".
Go to Settings → Streaming country, which sets the country the app checks availability for. By default it follows the language you chose when creating your account. Tap the arrow, pick "United Kingdom", and Where to watch will immediately show that country's streaming options, if there are any.
It means that, right now, no service in your country carries the title. That changes often, so it is worth checking again later.
It means Netflix no longer carries the title in your country's catalogue. The example is Netflix, but it applies to any streaming service. They change their catalogues often, so it is always worth checking.
Yes. If you have a streaming app installed on your phone and that service carries the title you are looking at, just tap the service's icon in the Where to watch section and the app will open so you can watch. In that case you leave FindMyFilms and carry on in the streaming service's app.
Yes! You can watch the trailer full screen: press the "Watch fullscreen" button just below the trailer window. The trailer then fills the screen and rotates into landscape mode, so you can watch with your phone held sideways. Tap the "X" to close it and the trailer goes back to its original size.
Some trailers are not allowed to play inside other apps. In those cases an "Open on YouTube" button appears, which opens the video in your browser or in the YouTube app. If there is no trailer button at all, it is because that title has no trailer on record.
The app shows information in the language you use the app in, but not every film has a translation available. When there is no translated version, the app shows the original title. Note: titles are saved to your lists in whatever language the app was set to when you added them. To change the language, go to Settings → Language. The change applies to the app's screens and to new searches.
It starts from the titles you rated 7 or higher and looks for similar ones: the higher the rating, the more weight the title carries. Favorite titles weigh even more, and what your friends rated highly rounds out the list. While you still have few rated titles, the app tops the tab up with popular titles in the genres you picked, so it is never empty.
It is the title from your list that pulled that suggestion in. If the card says "Because you liked Interstellar", it is because you gave Interstellar a high rating and that suggestion goes well with it.
On purpose. On each visit the app starts from a different combination of your highly rated titles, so it doesn't keep showing you the same suggestions. If you like a suggestion and don't want to lose sight of it, save it to 🔖 Watch later right away.
Because they did not come from your ratings: they are popular titles in one of the genres you picked, used so the tab is never empty. If you did not pick any genres they show up as "Popular right now". The more titles you rate 7 or higher, the fewer of them appear - until the list is built entirely from what you liked. They also step in when a filter leaves the list too short.
Two things explain it. If you picked genres when you joined, the tab arrives filled with popular titles in those genres - they carry the "Popular in [genre]" mark. And if you already have friends, the app uses the titles they rated highly while you have none of your own. As soon as you start rating, the suggestions come from your own taste instead.
Yes. Titles your friends rated 7 or higher can make it into your Suggestions. When that happens the card says who liked it, for example "Paul, Mary and Lou rated this 8.2 on average".
It does, but only as a tie-breaker. When two titles are level on every other criterion, the one a favorite friend liked comes first. Note that marking a friend as a favorite will never bring in a title your friends rated poorly.
No. Everything in Watched list is left out of the suggestions, and the same goes for anything you saved to Watch later list. Even so, something may look familiar. Usually it is another version of the same title: a remake, or the series based on the film. If a title you really did mark as watched shows up, let us know.
You can, under Settings → Suggestions preferences. There are two lists. Genres you like guide your suggestions while you have not rated many titles yet, and works as a tiebreaker afterwards. Genres you don't want to see never appear in your suggestions, not even the ones built from your ratings. Excluding a genre deletes nothing from your lists - the app simply stops suggesting it.
Watched is what you have already seen, with your rating. Watch later is what you still want to see. Recommendations are titles your friends recommended to you (and, on the Sent tab, the ones you recommended to them). All three live in the Lists tab.
It can. A title can be in the Watched list and in the Watch later list at the same time - handy for something you have seen and want to rewatch. In the Watched list there is an "Add to Watch later" button, and in the Watch later list there is a "Mark as watched" button.
On the card, tap Remove. That deletes only that entry: removing something from the "Watch later" list doesn't touch the title saved in the Watched list.
It is your "I want to see this one day" list. Use the 🔖 button on any card or on the title's page. Unlike Watched list titles, it has no ratings, and no one but you can see what's in it.
It is your personal rating, and it is what teaches the app what you like. Titles rated 7 or higher are the ones the app uses to build your suggestions. Your friends can see your ratings.
You can, as many times as you like: just tap another number on the card.
The star marks the titles you love most, within the Watched list. It does two things: it lets you filter the list down to favorites only, and it carries more weight in the engine behind your suggestions. Your friends can see which titles you marked as favorites.
There is no separate button: the star itself is the button. Tap it on the card or on the title's page.
Tap Filters, above the list. You can sort (newest first, year, rating, friends' picks), filter by genre and show favorites only. The button shows a number whenever a filter is on, so you are never left with an active filter without noticing. In the Recommendations list, the same button also carries the by friend filter.
You can. Under Settings → Terms, Privacy & Data there is an option to download your lists as a CSV, which opens straight in Excel. Right next to it you can also download all of your data as JSON.
From Letterboxd and IMDb. Download the data file the app generates and import it into FindMyFilms: your titles and ratings go to Watched, and your watchlist goes to Watch later.
To import, go to Settings → Import from other apps and choose the app.
FindMyFilms uses this data to generate Suggestions of movies and shows that are more personalized to your preferences. The more ratings you bring in, the more accurate they get.
What's already in FindMyFilms wins. If the title is already in Watched, your rating is kept, even if the other app's rating is different, and it's counted as "already in your lists". If it was in Watch later and you watched it in the other app, it moves to Watched. Importing never deletes anything.
Yes, as often as you like, to bring in what you've logged in the other app since. On a new import:
• new titles come in;
• if you changed a rating in the other app and didn't touch it in FindMyFilms, it is updated;
• if you changed the rating in FindMyFilms, yours wins;
• anything you removed from FindMyFilms does not come back;
• titles that left the watchlist because you watched them move to Watched.
Importing the same file twice duplicates nothing.
Yes. Each app is imported separately. A title that is in both appears only once in your list, and whatever rating it already has in FindMyFilms is kept.
The app only imports a title when it's sure which one it is, to avoid bringing in the wrong movie. Titles that were left out are listed by name at the end of the import: find them in Search and add them manually.
This is more likely to happen with Letterboxd, which only provides the title's name and year. With IMDb, each title has a unique code, so it's rare.
We never access your Letterboxd or IMDb account, and we don't ask for your password there: you download the file and upload it yourself. The file is read and discarded right away, and the personal data that the Letterboxd file also includes (profile, email, bio) is not read.
It usually takes less than a minute, even for large libraries, and the screen shows the progress. You can leave it or use other parts of the app: the import keeps going, and when you come back to the screen you'll see the result. At the end, the Go to Watched button takes you straight to the imported titles.
Only through the Letterboxd website: the Letterboxd app can't export your data. In a browser (on your phone or a computer), sign in at letterboxd.com and go to Settings → Data → Export your data. A ZIP file downloads. Save it without unzipping it.
You have two options:
1) The easiest is to import from your computer: open findmyfilms.com.br, sign in and go to Settings → Import from other apps → Letterboxd. Your lists are stored in the cloud, so the result shows up on your phone too.
2) Or send the ZIP to your phone (by email, WhatsApp, or cloud) and choose the file on the import screen. On iPhone, save it to the Files app first; on Android, it's usually in Downloads.
No. Choose the ZIP just as it came.
Each star is worth 2 points: ½★ becomes 1, 3★ becomes 6, 3½★ becomes 7 and 5★ becomes 10. The conversion is exact. Remember that Suggestions start from titles rated 7 or higher, i.e. 3½★ and up. Films you logged as seen without stars go into Watched unrated and only start counting once you rate them in FindMyFilms.
No. Only your ratings, watched titles, and watchlist come in. Likes don't become Favorites, because many people like hundreds of films and that would skew the Suggestions algorithm.
Only through the IMDb website, on a computer: the IMDb app and mobile site won't export your data. You need to download two files. Sign in at imdb.com and:
1) from your profile menu, go to Your ratings → ⋮ Actions → Export. IMDb shows an "In Progress" screen while it prepares the file; download it when it's ready;
2) do the same in Your watchlist → ⋮ Actions → Export.
You end up with two CSV files: your ratings and your watchlist.
You have two options:
1) The easiest is to import from your computer: open findmyfilms.com.br, sign in, and go to Settings → Import from other apps → IMDb. Your lists are stored in the cloud, so the result shows up on your phone too.
2) Or send the two files to your phone (by email, WhatsApp, or cloud) and choose them on the import screen. On iPhone, save them to the Files app first; on Android, they're usually in Downloads.
Choose both at once on the import screen. If you send only one, the app imports what's in it: ratings go to Watched, and the watchlist goes to Watch later. You don't need to rename the files: the app recognizes them by their content.
FindMyFilms tracks whole series, not episodes. A rated episode counts as "I watched the series": the series goes into Watched unrated, only once, however many episodes you rated. If you also rated the whole series on IMDb, that rating is used. The import result shows how many episodes were counted this way.
No. IMDb uses the same 1 to 10 scale as FindMyFilms, so every rating comes across exactly as it is.
They aren't imported: only your ratings and watchlist. Note: the app can't tell a custom list file apart from the watchlist file, so its titles would go to Watch later. So send only the ratings and watchlist files.
In the Friends tab, search by username or by real name and tap invite. The person has to accept before you become friends. If they had already invited you, the connection is made automatically.
In the Friends tab, use "Invite someone who isn't on the app yet". The app generates a link for you to send over WhatsApp, Messenger or any other app. If the person creates their account straight from the browser, you become friends automatically. If they install the app from the Play Store or App Store, they must tap the link again after installing - the connection is made right away.
That happens when the person installs from the App Store or the Play Store. The fix is simple: ask them to tap the link again with the app already installed - the invitation is recognised immediately.
The search looks at usernames and real names, and never at email addresses, which are confidential. Check the spelling with the person. If they have blocked you, they will not appear either.
From 4 friends onwards a filter box appears above the list: type part of the username or the real name and the list narrows as you type (accents and capitals do not matter). Next to it, the Filters button lets you sort by Favorites first or by Name (A-Z), and show favorites only.
Your friends see: your Watched list with your ratings, which of those titles you marked as favorites, the comments you wrote on titles, and your name and photo.
Your Watch later list is private and only you can see it. Your email never appears on any screen for other people. Which friends you marked as favorites stays between you and the app (the person is not told they became a favorite), and the same goes for anyone you blocked.
It is a friend you singled out by tapping the star next to their name in the Friends tab. That does three things: it sorts the person to the top of your friends list, it lets you select all your favorites at once when recommending a film, and it makes their opinion weigh more in your suggestions. The marking is private (the person is not told they became a favorite).
In the Friends tab, on the person's card, tap disconnect. You stop seeing each other's lists. The person is not notified.
On any card or on the title's page, tap 👉🏼 Recommend, pick one or several friends and, if you like, write a note. They get a notification and the title appears under Lists → Recommendations → Received.
The title, your username and the note you wrote, if you wrote one. They can react with an emoji and reply to you, and under Sent you can see whether they have opened it. If they watch it and give it a rating, that shows up for you too.
No, and the difference matters. Cancel recommendation actually deletes the recommendation: it disappears from the other person's Recommendations list. Remove only takes the card off your own screen; the person keeps their recommendation as normal. Neither one touches their other lists - if they had already saved the title to Watched or Watch later, it stays there.
You can. Under Lists → Recommendations → Sent, tap ✕ Cancel recommendation on the title's card: the list of everyone who received it appears, and you tick only the ones you want. If you recommended the same film to five friends, you can cancel it for one and leave it standing for the other four.
It is a community created to share movie and shows recommendations. Any member can post titles to the group, with an optional remark explaining why they recommend it.
In the Groups tab, tap Create a new group and give it a name. You automatically become its admin. To invite people, open the group and use Manage → Members, where you can search for friends by name. Each person invited has to accept before joining.
In the Groups tab, tap Discover and search by name. The search only shows groups that were set up to be findable. When you find the one you want, send a request to join - an admin has to approve it.
You can. Tap the star on the group's card in the Groups tab: favorites move to the top of the list, and to the top of the 👪 Add to Groups window when you save a title. The marking is yours: other members are not told and cannot see it. The list only reorders the next time you open the tab, so it never moves under your finger. From 4 groups onwards there is also a box to filter by name.
A private group doesn't appear in searches and can only be joined by invitation. A public group can be found by name under Discover, and anyone can ask to join - but the decision still rests with an admin. Every group starts out private, and only an admin can change that, under Manage → Group settings.
Members only. In a search, a public group shows just its name and how many people are in it - never who the members are, nor the titles, nor the remarks.
Whoever created the group starts as its admin and can promote other people. An admin can rename the group, change its privacy, approve requests, remove members and delete posts. A group is never left without an admin.
Under Manage → Membership → Leave group. If you are the last admin, the longest-standing member is promoted automatically so the group is not left without one.
When the last person leaves, the group and the titles posted in it are deleted. The same happens if the last person deletes their account.
The code comes from no-reply@findmyfilms.com.br and may have landed in your spam folder or under "Promotions" - look there first. It is valid for 15 minutes, and the screen lets you resend after 60 seconds. If it still doesn't arrive, write to us and we will verify your account manually.
On the sign-in screen, tap "Forgot your password?" and enter your email. We send you a 6-digit code so you can create a new password.
No - your account uses the Google or Apple button and has no password. If you want to create one, go to Settings → Account → Password: since you have no current password, the app confirms by asking for your email. After that, both ways of signing in work.
It is. Everything is stored in your account, so lists, ratings, friends and groups are the same on any device.
No. Your lists, ratings and friends are stored in your cloud account, not on your device. Log back in from any device and all your data will be there.
All in Settings: username and real name under Personal details, language under Language, and the photo at the top of the page. The photo accepts JPG, PNG or WebP up to 2 MB.
Brazilian Portuguese and English. You can switch under Settings → Language, and also on the opening screen before you sign in.
Open Settings → Notifications in the phone app. The setting applies only to the device you changed it on: turning it off on your phone doesn't turn it off on your tablet. It silences only the notifications that appear outside the app. In-app alerts carry on - the number on the Friends tab, the dot on Recommendations.
On any comment, recommendation or group post, open the "More options" menu and choose Report. We review every report within 24 hours. The reported person is never told who reported them.
From the same "More options" menu, or from the person's row in the Friends tab. When you block someone: you stop being friends, they can no longer find you in the app, and neither of you sees anything of the other. They are not notified. You can unblock later under Settings → Blocked accounts.
No. Unblocking only removes the block - the previous friendship is not restored. To be friends again, one of you has to send a new invitation.
Under Settings → Terms, Privacy & Data. There are two options: CSV with your lists (opens in Excel) and JSON with absolutely everything we store about you, your photo and your comments included.
Under Settings → Account → Danger zone → Delete my account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible - it erases everything: lists, ratings, comments, recommendations, friendships and groups. You can also do it without signing in, at findmyfilms.com.br/delete-account. If you want to keep a copy first, export your data first.
No. The details of everything we store, for how long and why are in the Privacy Policy, under Settings → Terms, Privacy & Data.
At the very bottom of the Settings page you will see "Version X.Y.Z". In the phone app there is also a "Check for updates" button there, which checks whether a newer version is out.
Yes, in the phone app: a "New version available" notice appears at the top of the screen. On Android you can update without leaving the app - it downloads the new version while you carry on using it, then asks you to restart. On iPhone the button takes you to the App Store. You can dismiss the notice with the ✕, and it comes back when a version newer than the dismissed one ships. It is always worth updating: new versions carry fixes, and a very old one can stop working. In the browser there is nothing to do - the site always opens on the latest version.
It is the plan that keeps search by Theme (using AI) running after the free trial period ends, and keeps the app free of ads. Everything else in the app - lists, ratings, favorites, friends, groups, suggestions and recommendations - stays free and works normally, with or without Premium.
Search by Theme (using AI) stops working, and the app starts showing ads. Your lists, ratings, friends and groups stay exactly as they were, and suggestions carry on as normal.
Where your account stands is shown under Settings → Account → Account status. While the free period is running, Theme search (with AI) and the ad-free experience stay unlocked, and the app tells you before that changes.
Nothing you have saved - lists, ratings, friends, groups - is lost when the period ends.
You can't subscribe yet - we are still setting in-app subscriptions up. For now there is nothing on sale and nobody is charged.
